Ashfield District Council was formed on the 1st April, 1974, and comprises the former Urban Districts of Hucknall, Kirkby-in- Ashfield and Sutton-in-Ashfield, together with the parishes of Annesley, Felley and Selston, which were part of the Basford Rural District. The council covers 42.3 sq mi providing services to 119,500 people and has 42 elected councillors.
The Requirement
The Council required a new microphone conferencing system to be installed inside their multi-purpose room. The system needed to be secure, reliable, cost affective and flex-able for their meeting. The new equipment needed to allow for electronic voting, ID attendance, secure Hard of Hearing as well as push to talk microphone and loud speaker system.
Because the room is used not only for full council meetings but for weddings, ceremonious and other formal events. The system needed to be flex-able enough for the different room changes yet meet all of the councils requirements, yet still give the look and feel of a permanent council chamber.

The Solution
Auditel’s IDN Digital Discussion System was the clear choice for this project, the IDN system met all of the councils needs by having up to 5 button voting, ID card system for attendance records, inbuilt loudspeaker and microphone with ring illuminant, as well as the headphone jack for the hard of hearing.
As the only UK manufacture, we were able to design and build a bespoke unit which could have the microphone removed and the cover plate protect the unit for when the room changes its uses.
The IDN system is a hard wired system which offers maximum security, reliability and best value for public money with the ability of web casting at a later stage. When the desks are positioned for full council, the fixed cabling is connected quickly, securely and with ease under the desks, with the last desk on the row terminating into a floor box.
A short throw projector was installed to display the voting results as well as our own infra-red Hard of Hearing panels and receivers.
